Travelling with Sarah, Chris and Fiete

As travel bloggers, Sarah and Chris have already seen a lot of the world. Now they’re travelling the world with their dog Fiete and taking us along for the ride in their travel story. From interesting insights to the essentials for travelling with their dog.

We fly far less than we did a few years ago. Funnily enough, since Fiete came to live with us, we’ve actually been travelling more than before – but to South Tyrol instead of Bali.

How Do You get Fiete Ready for a Trip?

To be honest? Not at all! We’re really lucky that Fiete is so relaxed when travelling and doesn’t get worked up about trips. On the one hand, we’ve trained him intensively from the very start, and on the other, he really does travel with us a lot. As soon as he sees that he’s definitely coming along (he checks this by lying down in the suitcase), everything’s fine with him.

Our must-haves are dog food and his favourite treats, travel bowls and his travel bed. We also need a harness so we can secure him in the car. Always with us: his pet passport.

How do You take Fiete’s Dog Food with You when Travelling?

Fiete is fed dry food, which is easy to transport. Depending on how long we’ll be out and about, we put the dry food in the Food Container of the Bento Set or the large Sacco Dog Food Bag.

Which Destinations/Hotels are Particularly Dog-Friendly, and Why?

We love South Tyrol, Bavaria and Austria. We also love Sylt in winter, because during the colder months dogs are allowed to run freely on almost all the beaches. Incidentally, these hotels are particularly dog-friendly: the Gutshofhotel Winkler Bräu in Bavaria, the Kaiserlodge in Tyrol and the Cyprianerhof in South Tyrol. The Six Senses Douro Valley in Portugal is so dog-friendly that it is even home to two stray dogs that wandered into the hotel a few years ago.

When we travel by car, we bring his travel bed, “Viaggio.” It’s incredibly practical, as it doubles as both his car seat and his bed in the hotel room.

How has Travelling with Your Dog Changed Your Lifestyle?

Thanks to our dog, we’ve learnt that you don’t have to travel far afield to see the beauty of the world. And for our blog, too, it turned out that nearby destinations have become much more interesting than long-haul trips.
